چکیده

Many physiological functions in arthropoda are carried out in an orderly manner with the help of their body fluids. The number of hemocytes investigated differs according to the subtexon of Arthropoda. The techniques and procedure for preparations, fixation and staining techniques have impact on the reaction of hemocytes; as a consequence the characteristics on which the nomenclature of hemocytes was based became highly diverse. The identification key used in the present investigation was proposed by Gupta (1985). Many excellent reviews are available on the insect (Jones, 1970, 1977; Gupta, 1985). The study of hemocytes is preferentially focused with insects and other arthropods, but scorpions remained more or less neglected. Scorpion hemocytes were studied by Patil and Shah (2011); Shah and Patil (2011). The hemocytes are very important as far as immunology is considered. Hence the present investigation is focused on the scorpion Heterometrus xanthopus.

Effect of Asian Black Scorpion Heterometrus fastigiousus Couzijn Envenomation on Certain Enzymatic and Hematological Parameters

Introduction Accidental scorpion sting is a serious health issue of poor communities in tropical and subtropical areas throughout the world. Out of 1500 scorpion species distributed throughout the world, only 50 scorpion species have been proved lethal to human [1]. The symptoms of scorpion envenomation depend on species, age, venom composition and the victim’s physiological response. Scorpion ...

Impact of scorpion Heterometrus fulvipes venom on cholinesterase rhythmicity in the tropical mouse Mus booduga.

Rhythmicities of acetylcholine (ACh) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) were studied in the mouse, Mus booduga (Gray), following intramuscular injection of scorpion, Heterometrus fulvipes (C. Koch) venom. Envenomation inhibited the activity levels of ACh and AChE in all the tissues selected for experimentation. Control animals exhibited diel rhythmicity in ACh and AChE while envenomated animals sh...

Effects Potentials of Commercial Edible Heterometrus Spinifer in Vitro

In this investigation, the genotoxic and oxidative effects of water soluble extracts of Heterometrus spinifer (Malaysian Forest Scorpion) has been assessed on cultured human blood cells. The extract was added to the cultures at 12 different concentrations (0-2000 mg/L). Micronucleus (MN) test was used to monitor the DNA and chromosomal damage produced by scorpion extracts in vitro. In addition,...

Anticoagulant Activity of Low-Molecular Weight Compounds from Heterometrus laoticus Scorpion Venom

Scorpion venoms are complex polypeptide mixtures, the ion channel blockers and antimicrobial peptides being the best studied components. The coagulopathic properties of scorpion venoms are poorly studied and the data about substances exhibiting these properties are very limited. During research on the Heterometrus laoticus scorpion venom, we have isolated low-molecular compounds with anticoagul...

Hp1404, a New Antimicrobial Peptide from the Scorpion Heterometrus petersii

Antimicrobial peptides have attracted much interest as a novel class of antibiotics against a variety of microbes including antibiotics resistant strains. In this study, a new cationic antimicrobial peptide Hp1404 was identified from the scorpion Heterometrus petersii, which is an amphipathic α-helical peptide and has a specific inhibitory activity against gram-positive bacteria including methi...
